~ Brand Details

For many years, Trek has been a leader in traditional bicycles. Now, they are leaders in electric bikes, too!

Electric bikes have been making waves in some cities. They have all of the power of a motorbike or scooter combined with the convenience of a traditional bicycle. Depending on where you are, they might just be the easiest way to get around yet.

Trek has become a well-loved and trustworthy brand throughout the years.  Since their inception, they have delivered quality bicycles, so it comes with no surprise that their e-bikes are exceptional.

Trek began as a simple bicycle shop in Wisconsin. It was run by a South African and an American man. They came to the realization that no one was making quality bicycles in the USA. Wanting to change that, they decided to go beyond retail and into manufacturing.

This realization came after they expanded their original shop into a chain, and the shops were all failing. They realized that the products available were of low quality. They strived to make a high-quality option and Trek was born.

The name Trek means journey, and it is extremely fitting – not only because a bicycle can take you on a journey, but also because of the long and winding road that Trek took to become the brand it is today.

In 1975, Trek was born when the 2 original founders began to build their own products. Years of industry experience had given them the insight that they needed. They knew that there was a market need for high-quality American bikes. The only products available were low quality or higher-end, unattainably expensive products imported from Europe.

The first shop to sell Trek bicycles was a converted barn that opened its doors to the public in 1976. In its first year, Trek produced 904 bicycles. Handcrafted from steel and silver, they knew immediately that they had achieved their vision and success did not take long to follow.

Trek was built on a culture of American craftsmanship. Everything was meticulously done to deliver the highest results possible. Trek was the first brand to break down the belief that all good bicycles must come from Europe – they wanted to show that American products could compete and even be better than their European competitors.

Today, Trek’s headquarters is a mile away from the original farm, tying Trek forever to its humble beginnings. The hugely successful brand now has shops located all over the world and their products are available online too. They have country-specific websites that help people locate shops in their area and see what their best options are for the geographic location.

From a simple shop to an international brand – Trek owes its rapid growth to its quality products. Trek has made more innovations towards quality bicycles in four decades that what was made in the four centuries before its inception. Always at the forefront of modern technology, Trek has tirelessly strived to constantly deliver the highest quality products.

As technology evolved and e-bikes arrived, Trek did the opposite of fall behind, like some brands do when faced with innovative new products. They started to manufacture some of the best e-bikes on the market.

Now, Trek has e-bikes for every situation. They have e-bikes geared towards city life and e-bikes tailored especially for mountain trails. There is something for everyone – and if you do not know what will suit your needs, do not fear, because Trek’s website has an extensive questionnaire that will help you select the perfect e-bike for you!

Sustainable living and biking goes hand in hand and the advent of e-bikes means that not all of the power has to come from you. It is the same concept as riding a standard bike but with way more power and control. E-bikes have all the advantages of bikes – you can take them almost anywhere, they can go places a car can’t go, and you can park it almost anywhere. E-bikes give you access to all of this convenience without requiring all of the power.

The downside is that they are on the more expensive side, but with Trek, you know that you are buying a trustworthy product that is designed to last and carry you for many miles and many years.

Many people are embracing e-bikes as the mode of transport for the future and it is incredibly easy to see why.

~ Brand Breakdown

Trek does not simply follow trends, they also define them. As bicycle manufacturers, they have often been on the cutting edge of technology and have helped to set the bar extremely high for competitors.

In 2019, their focus is more towards e-bikes than ever before – but that does not mean that they have abandoned their other pursuits. They are still the leading choice for mountain bikes and road bikes.

If history repeats itself then Trek will certainly keep on leading the way and creating new and innovative bikes in the future.

~ Q&A’s

What’s the difference between a bike and an e-bike?

E-bikes simply amplify your pedaling effort. They pedal like a regular bike, but with a lot of added power!

Are electric bikes like motorcycles?

No, electric-powered motorcycles use a throttle to engage the power. Trek e-bikes are pedal-assist, so input to the pedals determines the level of assist. Riding an electric bike is incredibly intuitive, and anyone who can ride a bike will immediately feel comfortable on one.

Where can I ride my e-bike?

Anywhere that you can ride a regular bike! Some e-bikes are built for rough terrains while others aren’t, so make sure you get one that fits your specific needs.

Do electric bikes require a licence or registration?

That depends on where you live. Some countries require licensing and registration for e-bikes, so it is best to check with your local authorities.
