~ Brand Details
Xiaomi is the latest Chinese tech brand on the rise. Since their formation in 2010, they have been creeping into global tech markets, getting ready to make their mark on society.
Seemingly coming out of nowhere, they are now appearing all over the place, competing with tech behemoths such as Samsung, Apple, the fellow Chinese tech behemoth Huawei.
Huawei arguably laid the foundations for brands such as Xiaomi to come forward. They introduced the western world to superior Chinese technology. While brands like these are making strides in multiple markets, there is one market in particular that we want to focus on – a market that enables people to live a more sustainable lifestyle and make the world a more sustainable place.
It’s a simple and sometimes overlooked market in the sustainable market – scooters!
So what makes scooters so sustainable, and why are Xiaomi’s options better than others?
In a perfect world, we could all bike and walk everywhere, we would not need to rely on any fossil fuels or external energy sources. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the world that most people live in.
Scooters rely on much less fuel than cars or motorbikes, but they are equally roadworthy and equally functional. They’re arguably more functional because they allow more access in restricted areas than a car would, and take up even less room than a motorbike.
If you haven’t been paying attention, it kind of looks like Xiaomi came out of nowhere – that’s mainly because they’ve been thriving in China and have only ventured beyond in recent days. Xiaomi products only became available in the US market in 2019. They have already made their mark in the USA, with smartphones competing in the ultra-saturated and competitive market – and some of them are doing well, becoming known for offering superior products for a fraction of the price.
Their scooters his the US markets in 2019, too, and they are being favored for the same reasons. It stands to reason that their scooters would be of the same high standard as their cellphones. A quick google search for the best electric scooter options will showcase several Xiaomi products among the top-rated option.
Xiaomi electric scooters are surging to popularity for many reasons. One of the main ones is that they cater to everyone, with scooters suitable for adults and children, and tailored to travel both long-distance hurls and short sprints.
Most Xiaomi electric scooters are tailored towards adults. They have high-speed functions and are not size adjustable, meaning that they are not your average children’s toy. Some areas require licenses for them to be used, so make sure that you’re up-to-date with the law before you make a purchase.
They’re built from aircraft-grade aluminum, ensuring durability and endurance.
Some of the scooters have fold-up options for easier transportation and storage – making them even more sustainable. You can get onto public transport with a fold-up scooter and then you can easily store it in a small city dwelling.
Electric scooters are not exclusive to Xiaomi and recent years have seen a surge in their popularity as they become more refined. Most electric scooters are reminiscent of plastic, bulkier versions of the old-school scooters that children have enjoyed as toys for years. That is not the case with Xiaomi.
Xiaomi scooters are elegant and refined. Most can travel up to around 30km per hour (nearly 20 miles) and they are almost completely silent. They are extremely energy efficient considering the amount of power that they can generate.
Xiaomi scooters are pretty futuristic in a lot of ways, especially when compared to competitors. Xiaomi products sync with an app that can tell you everything from the remaining battery life of your scooter to the average speed that you travel. The app has all kinds of insights like these – you can set up your controls for accelerating and cruise control (yes, cruise control on a scooter!) and even look at the distance that you have traveled. The app also makes any problem that arises with your scooter easy to pinpoint. It’s just one of the many reasons why people love Xiaomi scooters and value their products above competitors.
It’s not hard to see why this Chinese brand is making waves in the US markets and around the world! Xiaomi products are being loved around the world for their features that go above what many other brands offer. They are both aesthetic and functional. Xiaomi scooters have larger tires than most scooters. This adds to the safety and also means that they can handle some off-road terrains. The lighting is powerful, too – another safety feature that sets Xiaomi above the rest. Some have kinetic energy recovery systems and disc brakes that are capable of reducing braking distance to a mere 4m. Xiaomi scooters have high-capacity batteries, meaning they’re extremely unlikely to run out of juice halfway to your destination – especially if you keep the mobile app close by! All of the features are built to work together with ease for smoother all-round user experience. Xiaomi scooters are built with both safety and speed in mind.
Xiaomi scooters generally take 5 to 6 hours to charge, so it is always important to allow time for this. How do they charge? It’s pretty simple – you just plug it in!
3 STARS – Xiaomi is not a hugely sustainable brand. They do not use sustainable materials or have any kind of eco-friendly mission. They get some points for offering products that let people live more sustainably and some for having quality products. Xiaomi is a rising star in a highly competitive marketplace. It would be impressive to see them adopt more sustainable production methods while still competing with tech giants globally.

~ Brand Breakdown
Xiaomi is the latest tech brand to catch the public’s attention. They’ve been around for almost a decade but have only recently snuck into the western market – and people are impressed.
It’s hard to know where they might go from here – they could either keep rising, or they could fall. It would be great to see them continue to climb – their products are definitely of high quality and the fact that they are making an impact in such a competitive market speaks for itself.
As of 2019, they are still establishing themselves in the western world, but they are already hugely popular in China. China has one-fifth of the world’s population so this is no small feat.
- High Quality
- No sustainable materials used
Back to that earlier talk of a perfect world – in a perfect world, all energy is renewable. That’s just not the case for earth yet. Electric cars, scooters, and other modes of transport are impressive, but they are not 100% sustainable just yet. The source of electricity use plays deeply into this. If you are charging your electric vehicle in a wind-powered city, then you are fully utilizing green energy and living sustainably. If you are charging your electric vehicle in a coal-powered city, then, of course, your carbon footprint is still growing.
This being said, even when coal power is used – an electric vehicle uses much less power than one that relies on fossil fuels. They generate less waste, less c02 emissions, and are less energy-intensive.
With all this considered, going electric is still a sustainable option, regardless of the source of electricity. There is a positive environmental impact but that impact is amplified in greener cities.
